Nightmares of Hospital Hill
National Grid decided to start their work two weeks early. So, out of the blue, they pitched up and created chaos. This picture shows an environmental services vehicle arriving, just as we are all off to work. We had to park our vehicles elsewhere for weeks.
Sometimes the road was blocked for up to half an hour. |

The two men in the foreground, wearing the “Hard-Hats” are from the Health & Safety Executive. Then you can see two youths without hard hats working on the site. So I went up the two HSE Execs and suggested that they lend the two youths their hard hats to comply with the law. “They’ll be alright” one of them said. “They’re doing no harm.”
At the time, unbeknown to us, the developers had demolished the old hospital, containing asbestos. We are all at home inhaling asbestos dust, but nobody seemed to care, including Chiltern District Council. It can take up to 40 years for asbestos diseases to manifest themselves. Opposite Picture
These cars parked are not even visitors. They have gone to a football match and blocked the road completely. The residents had to move their cars to let the others out.
